The East River Sharks offer competitive players a chance to further develop their skills in a more intensive format. With our knowledgeable coaching staff and comprehensive training, players can develop quickly and improve their skills.
The East River Sharks have access to a year-round indoor training facility with batting cages, and conditioning areas. During the season, we call Randall's Island our home.
A unique and comprehensive youth baseball training philosophy unlike any other in NYC with personalized coaching, a focus on teaching fundamental baseball and player development with a unique family focused organizational approach.
Highly experienced, professional and caring coaching are the key to the Sharks organization. Several coaches have former professional playing experience, college experience and all have many years of youth baseball coaching experience. They will get to know every player and every players skill set.
Coach Paul is a twenty-year Physical Education teacher and coach, with a New York State teaching license. He has taught and worked with athletes of all skill levels. He has two master’s degrees: one in Physical Education, Teaching and Coaching, and the other in Psychology. He knows how to motivate and work with children and athletes.
Paul started the East River Sharks in the spring of 2018 with the mission to bring baseball to all players who wanted to play -- regardless of economic status. The organization started with one team and Paul has grown the baseball program to one of the most sought after programs to play for in New York City. In his first season, Coach Paul brought home the 2018 Summer Championship with the 11/12u team, and the following year, clinched the Spring Championship with the 13u team.
Prior to starting the Sharks, Coach Paul coached for the Yorkville Youth Athletic Association for eight seasons, including several travel spring/fall teams. He is a former NYC PSAL assistant baseball coach and JV head football coach for Automotive High School, and, brought his football team to three undefeated seasons!
As a high school player, Paul was recruited by St. John’s baseball program in 1992 and was highly recruited across the country as one of the top outfielders and pitchers from New York.
Coach Paul has dual coaching certifications from the Positive Coaching Alliance, https://www.positivecoach.org/. His philosophy about coaching is that a positive approach gets the most from youth and athletes, and that staying mindful helps on and off the field. Coach Paul has always believed that the difference a coach can make in a young athlete’s life is enormous.
He is certified in CPR, First Aid and child and adult AED. He is a member of the New York State Education Department, American Alliance for Health, Physical Education and Recreation and was a graduation guardian while teaching high school — helping student athletes apply for and achieve athletic and academic scholarships. He has been a mentor to hundreds of students and athletes over the course of his career.
